Chip McElroy graduated in 1989.  He did super work mutating the enzyme HDC and adding greatly to our knowledge of its detailed mechanism of action.  He then went for post doctoral seasoning in San Diego, where he became known as “the wave tamer”, but we don’t know why.  He returned to Austin and worked at Ambion for a spell, but eventually put his knowledge, and major interest, to work in setting up his own brewery, “Live Oak”.  They are doing well and make several mighty fine beers. 

 

Now Chip is a bastion of middle class morality, having married Lara, a composer and musician, and is the father of two girls.  The older is Madeline, shown in this picture from 2002.  His second was just born and according to Chip “Rowan Isabelle McElroy, 8 lb., 12 oz., August 26, 2003.  She was eating about 20 min out of the womb and hasn't stopped since.  She's gonna be a whopper”.
