Darcy did some excellent work on structure-based design of ricin inhibitors for her doctoral project. She left here to do postdoctoral research at Northwestern. I got a brief update from her in March 2003. Here it is.
I graduated in 2001 and left for the "windy city". I have been at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine working in a protein crystallography laboratory. I have been a part of the Midwest Structural Genomics consortium, solved one de-novo structure so far, and plan to solve several more before I'm through. I'm also going back to the wet-bench to do
some biochemical characterization of a potentially interesting cell-division protein. Although university life has its benefits, I will pursue a job in the private sector in 2004.
Life in Chicago has been interesting. Besides the weather and the lack of land to cultivate my gardening interests, it's been a treat. I still see a lot of live music, and recently have focused on my own musical aspirations. I have no desire to play for other people, but rather perfect my one-man band sound for my own amusement. I won't elaborate on my dating experiences in Chicago, but suffice to say I won't be sending any family photos just yet.
