Elisabeth Schelp was a superb lab tech who worked here from 1994 to 2000.  She did every aspect of our research, from protein chemistry to gene cloning to x-ray structures.  Her husband Rich got a job as a physic professor at a small college in South Carolina, where they have now moved.  Elisabeth says the house was a “fixer-upper” and she personally painted the whole interior, including the ceilings.  In addition to their son Ernie, the Schelps recently adopted a baby girl from China.  Elisabeth sent us these pictures in Nov 2002 of them with Ernie, aged 2, and the new baby.

I got a brief note from Elisabeth in Jan 2005; she also atached a nice picture.

Hi there. Greetings to you from South Carolina. Just wondering how
things are going in the lab and how you ever manage without Margaret
around to keep things under control. I can't imagine the lab without
her.
Every once in a while I check the old geezer page and it's good to see
what different people are up to. At times I actually miss Austin, and
then I remember it's not really Austin I miss, but the people I knew
there.

We're doing fine here. Rich is enjoying teaching, although some
semesters we think his load is insane. Now we have three children.
Ernie is 4 and will start school next year. I can't believe it! I
guess that's what all parents say. Naomi is 3, and our newest one,
Thad, is 14 months. So, I'm still not out in the work-a-day world, but
I have plenty to keep me busy chasing after the three of them. My job
in the lab was fine, but the job at home is much more fun! Well, just
wanted to keep in touch.
